CHECKLIST OF BIRDS OF NAHARH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - Suresh C. Sharma & Anil Bhola

First Draft
(Appeal: Other birders are requested to send their notes about this sanctuary to suresh_haryana@vsnl.net or to devasar@gmail.com)

Introduction

Spread over 600 acres of light thorny woodland, Naharh Wildlife Sanctuary was made for conversation of Black Bucks found there. We have been visiting it since 1985 and so far have visited it only 15 times. There is no water body inside, except a small man-made water pool to provide water to the black bucks, which hardly attract any water birds. There is a nearby minor irrigation channel. It is a dry area with thorny babul and prosopis juliflora trees and bushes and a few other species like neem, peepal, raunj etc.

Location

The sanctuary is located in the Rewari district of Haryana state. Nearest town is Kosli. Nearly 40 kms from Bhindawas Lake Bird Sanctuary.

Terms used

Out of our 15 visits, if we have seen or heard a bird at least 8 times inside the sanctuary or immediate vicinity, it has been termed as common. Seen or heard fewer than 7 times has been termed as uncommon. Only those birds which have been seen breeding have been termed as breeding.
