This is a tentative checklist and readers are requested to send in their additional sightings to be incorporated into this list. All contributions will be acknowledged.

About Sitlakhet: A tiny hill-station located at an altitude of about 6,000 feet above MSL in the Almora district of Uttaranchal (30 km. from Ranikhet). Excellent views of snow clad Himalayan ranges may be had on clear days.

Habitat: Pine forest with patches of dense, mixed forest.

How to get there: Sitlakhet is about an 8 hrs. car drive from Delhi. The nearest railhead is Kathgodam, which is connected by overnight train from Delhi. Taxis are available at Kathgodam station.

Accommodation: A Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) Tourist Rest House offers boarding and lodging at reasonable rates. Bookings can be made from the KMNV office in New Delhi (Tel: 23712246). An old Forest Department Dak Bangalow (built is the 1870s) also stands adjacent to the KMVN Rest House.
